St Triduana, an 8th century saint, removed her eyes and sent them to Nechtan, a local chieftain, as a rebuke for his unwelcome attentions. After this she retired to Restalrig where she was in due course buried.
Her well became a place of pilgrimage for those with diseases of the eye and was recognised as a place of healing until at least the late 16th century.
