Description Lord Dalhousie was responsible for erecting the structure we see today soon after Queen Victoria's visit. It is made from 6 rough hewn granite arches converging to meet in the centre like the crown of St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh. It is 20 feet high with a hewn freestone cross on the top. The public road up Glen Esk ends at a large car park at Kirkton. A track leads off to the right a little way up the private road to Loch Lee. About 2 miles up this fairly flat track this magnificent monument comes into sight further up the glen.
