Shame about the cress though....I had not realised until spending time talking to the monks on Caldey last year just how vital cress was to the early hermits etc - probably the only reliable source of protein for them throughout the year, as they were likely to abstain from all meat.
Just think, that cress had probably been growing consistently from the time St Pedry himself collected his daily supply! Bet it will be back even more vigorously for its bit of pruning though. |
