In a 2nd hand NT guide book I picked up today: "The church is dedicated to St Hydroc, who is said to have come to Cornwall as a missionary from Ireland with his better-known brother Madron. Outside the porch stands a finely ornamented cross, originally of the 'four-holed' type but now lacking its encircling ring. The shaft is ornamented on the front with a panel of plait-work design which takes the form of figure-of-eight knots. The back is covered with foliated scroll-work, thought to be thirteenth century."
