In this view I'd have laid back on what you see as the right side of the 'gnomon's 'spine', but as I had my back to it, I referred to it as the left side.
The stone to the extreme left is probably the more westerly bun-shaped stone. Will check next week. Near centre is the large quartz block.
(I'm just trying to make sense of the 'gnomon's shape and angle to the ground. Probably sounds as if I'm losing the plot!)
The man talking to my friend (another Angela) was Ocifant! (Not sure if he still uses this website?) This was March 03/04. Neither of us knew we were Portal users till much later, when I queried nearby spooky Creeg Tol, and he replied. |
| Posted Comments: binardino (2006-05-18) | great stone circle angielake ; is this a taller menhir standing up in the center of the circle ; is there 12 stones around it or more ? we don't see very well , if it's twelve perhaps a primitive calendar ? | AngieLake (2006-05-18) | Hello Binardino. In his book 'Circles of Stone' the British expert on stone circles, rows, etc, - Dr Aubrey Burl - says there are 19 stones in the circle (not counting the leaning one in the centre). If you go to the site page (click on the yellow-highlighted word 'Boscawen Un' top left of this page) you will see more pictures and notes on the site. | thecaptain (2006-05-19) | Many of the stone circles in this remote part of Cornwall have 19 stones binardino. I have no idea why this should be. |
