Three of the stones looked as if they could have been significant old standers. I wonder whether there was ever anything standing here before the hill was completely wrecked with all the quarrying. |
| Posted Comments: Runemage (2012-12-05) | Be nice to know the backstory, nice find! | theCaptain (2012-12-05) | Off the top of my head from recent googling, there were a couple of famous tumuli at Caerloggas which were excavated many many years ago, and found in one of them was, I believe, the earliest bronze ingot found in UK? And did I read about a timber circle ? I cannot check in the office. It may of course have been a different Caerloggas. | theCaptain (2012-12-05) | Just looked at the Defra Magic Map on a large / small scale and the three Caerloggas barrows are marked as tumuli, right across the trackway to the top of the hill about 250 metres to the north of this circle. I would imagine they have been mostly obliterated, although on a close in zoom on the various satellite pictures and some semblance of a structure acan be seen where the northernmost tumulus is marked. |
