This is one of our favourite spots for Sunday lunch, so no great hardship!
The Carn Meini outcrop is to the left of this shot - which is basically looking along the northern flank of the Preseli Hills towards Carn Ingli and the coast at Newport.
It is certainly true that no-one would take any stones from Pont Saeson up and over Mynydd Preseli to reach the sea at Milford Haven - hopefully this photo will show that there is a much easier & shorter route than that!
That seems not to be the real issue though.....what I am hoping from the new discussion is a more open-minded look at the issues and facts, rather than experts claiming to 'know'.
We spent our lunchtime sitting on Foeldrygarn and imagining the ice flowing down (over both Pont Saeson AND Carn Meini!) and picking up debris to deposit wherever it eventually melts. It is surprisingly easy to visualise it when you are up there...
For those who can't get to see the actual location, I definitely recommend reading 'The Bluestone Enigma' by Brian John - even if there are some aspects I ended thinking of as 'not proven', I certainly think it should be essential reading for anyone offering any theory about the Bluestones - whichever outcrop Mother Nature might have put them in to start with! |

(2011-02-28) | Thanks Martin - I guess it must have failed the test of needing to actually have a megalith in sight? Most of the photos I took yesterday were even less clear than this, as the wind was so strong I could hardly keep camera steady! | AngieLake
