| Posted Comments: howard mattinson (2005-04-26) | A row of chambered Cairns. I visited this site over 20 years ago. The cairns had clearly visable 'chambers' or kists, but now they are in very poor state, more or less a pile of stones. | mickm (2005-04-26) | This is most probably a single long cairn with a chamber at either end (see RCAHMS plan, 1996 on Canmore). This is not untypical of these Clyde type chambered tombs, although the length of this cairn is extraordinary. There have been at least four Bronze Age round barrows noted within close proximity to this site & it is not uncommon for these early Neolithic chambered tombs to become the focus for BA cemeteries many centuries later. |
