and between these stones over three or four nights. On the first night the moon would have set in line with S3-S1-S4 and Bellanoch Hill.
From between S2 and S3 over the next few nights, the moon near its southern monthly maximum would have set between S5 and S4 in slightly different positions. This could also have been watched from S1.
However, near the autumn equinox in September the extreme southern first quarter moon could have set in line with S3-S5 and S2-S4.
