| Posted Comments: hamilton (2011-09-04) | Pity about the huge caption spoiling the image. | Sunny100 (2011-09-04) | Yes I agree with you, but I suppose its all to do with "copyright". | hamilton (2011-09-05) | Well, if members aren't prepared to donate their images to the site without copyright restrictions, it's a sad day indeed. There is no place for this type of image. Hopefully, Scotaviaimages will have second thoughts and replace it. | mikeaitch (2011-09-05) | Re legal; using that typeface should be criminal! ;-) | theCaptain (2011-09-05) | Forgive me if I am wrong, but all images posted to the portal are the copyright of the submitter, unless otherwise stated. However, the images we provide freely for all to see sometimes get stolen and used by other websites and publications, who try to pass off the images as their own, with no regard or reference to the owner of the picture, which is criminally wrong. This is why many people who submit their photos here add a simple copywright statement to their pictures. | mikeaitch (2011-09-05) | That's how I understand it Martyn. Anyone suspicious that their images are being used without their permission might find a reverse image search engine like http://www.tineye.com rather useful :) | Andy B (2011-09-05) | Captain is right, and a simple non obtrusive copyright statement will do if it worries you. The text can be almost always be cropped off by an unscrupulous image pincher (including the above awful example!) so why ruin a good image. | h fenton (2011-09-05) | Similar to TinEye you can also use Google Images http://images.google.com to reverse search images, it works with most browsers (InternetExplorer,Firefox,Chrome,Safari) but not Opera (currently-09/2011), you can either 'drag and drop' images to the search box or at the extreme right of the search box is a camera icon/symbol, click on this and a little dialogue comes up asking you to input a url or gives the option of uploading an image. Interesting/maddening where some of my Kite Aerial Photos on flickr end up ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/hamishfenton/sets/72157607164725348/ )
I can't see a problem with the above copyright statement, it doesn't cover important details of the photograph - being mither tap fort. If you want to see how intrusive copyright statements can be just have a look at a few photo libraries. |
