Description It's a 5000 year-old part of history. Unique. I've got a brilliant idea - let's put a stinking landfill site next to it! After that, we could strip-mine the neighbouring fields for the little stones under them. Bargain. Heeeey. Howsabout we turn the whole place into a *Theme Park*? MacThornboro anyone?

Apalling. Didnt somebody in "authority" once state that none of these terrible things going on nearby would have any impact on the site ? They'll be building a dirty great big road through it next. I dont think the French would even go so far as this !

Items such as this are in breach of ebay policies & should be reported to them, they seem to be getting better at removing them these days. In this case the items have either been illegally removed from a World Heritage Site or are fraudulent, most likely the latter. I have reported these to ebay & we'll see what happens. If others do the same it might push ebay into acting.

Yes indeed, item number 5669477831 on eBay is a 'piece of stone' from Callanish. I await a response to the following complaint Ii have made to eBay: Dear eBay, The Callanish Stones are a scheduled monument. Removal of any artefacts from this protected ancient site is prohibited under law. Please can you give me the seller's full name and address so I can report this theft to the authorities?

There are in fact 2 separate listings, the other item number is 5668256395.

Some good news - one of the 2 items listed has now completely disappeared from ebay, hopefully the other will follow.

Er, I was joking when I suggested a theme park. The landowner has other ideas though; see comments here: http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=1292629588#8959
