Neolithic? How do you know? | robbbo (2011-06-01) | found myself on previously excavated Neo settlement in the Nene valley, compared to similars found in same area of same & different design from same material...1 of the more common designs throughout this period. | bat400 (2011-06-01) | A monkey carving is one of the more common neolithic designs you or others have found in the Nene Valley? Or do you mean that carvings from this type of stone are common? | robbbo (2011-06-06) | Hi sorry for delay in response, been away for last few days.....actually both, the monkey is a common figure carved from many materials & also this material shown was a material used for sculpting & carving such examples due to its sandy texture...not many have found similars to my piece only 2 measuring the same size (there abouts) have ever been found in britain...i have also found many smaller examples from same material & also carvings in flint, sand stone & iron stone...these though are believed to originate from much earlier, probably "old stone age" as reference suggests but thats souly guess work but definately much older than the Neo era certain. | robbbo (2011-06-06) | a larger pic from my photobucket album showing clearer image from dif angles, also showing clear "Venus" figure painted on the obverse smooth surface:
