(2005-12-17) | Yes indeed and we East Anglians may not have much if anything in the way of megaliths, but we have some mighty fine barrows. Remember also, that we now cover Roman and Saxon barrows and sites | Tragic
(2005-12-17) | There are lots of round barrows in Thetford Forest yes, some hidden in pine compartments, and some newly recorded by the Thetford Forest earthwork surveyors (all compartments that are scheduled for 'destumping' are forwarded to Suffolk Archaeology who have a surveyor go out and check them for any earthworks). I find it difficult to get convincing photographs of some of these barrows, because of the trees resticting the angle, but sure, it sounds like a worthwhile project out of the fieldwalking season. | loxley
(2006-09-26) | Yes, this is a familiar notched flake to me....i've found the same shaped pieces over here in south west France (where i live)...and personnally as an experienced archer (prehistoric & medieval)...i would sugest these type of pieces as being ideal for shaving/trimming arrow shafts. These pieces are often overlooked and disregarded by archaeologistes...it can't be a coincidence that they turn up frequently...can it ? ...(just a few thoughts on this piece....i'am no expert !!) |
