|Description ||Carving on a boulder in the remains of a field boundary wall. Consisting of grooves forming a cross, surrounded by a 'heart-shaped' groove. Four cups occur also. The stone may be on edge as the carving now sits on a vertical face. Found near Southpiece Farm (just west of Otley Chevin), Menston, West

|I asked the farmer's permission to find this! He reckoned the carving was just 'where t'ploughshare had hit it'. He also pointed out the nearby fort. It's not marked on the 1:25,000 OS map, but it's pretty impressive. A roughly circular earthwork with a definite ditch. The old Roman road runs nearby. |
