As far as I understood it, the problem with its authenticity as a proper stone circle, is that there is nothing circular about it, and a quarry 30 seconds away was a quarry for gate posts! It has been postulated that these stones are unused gate posts erected where they were finished / semi-finished. Compare these stones to stone gate posts, and the argument is near convincing. However, there is a body of strange experiences that people have had at this site that lends weight to the feeling that this 'should' be a stone circle. I stayed here for a few minutes by myself after the group left, and the ambience of the place is certainly mysterious. |
