Description Visited here 13th Sept approx 5pm. Absolutely amazed to see the whole figure sculpture that is the back stone of the tomb.
This really looks like a bearded, moustached, long haired middle aged man looking surprised. This side of the stone is well protected from the elements and relatively unweathered. Does anyone else see this (clearly Angie does)? Even Cope does not mention it. It blew my mind when I opened the photograph for the first time. Note also the 2 thin slithers of light coming through his mouth. I'll be looking at more tombs to see if anything similar is out there . . .

Angie - I wasn't sure what Guy meant - until I happened to come back into the room when this image was on screen, and the extra distance made all the difference!
So, for anyone else who can't see the fella, step back a bit and you will possible see it too...wood & trees I guess?

Glad it's not just me!! Can anyone point me to more tombs with holed supporting stones that I can investigate?

Very wholesome! Better than Terence Meaden's "fixation".
Guy, for a holed support stone try Heston Brake, from which Gray Hill is in sight.

Being shorter and viewing from a lower base- I guess - I saw a female figure and the triangular mouth almost like Picasso's Woman Crying. Male or female, the suggestion of a figure is there to see.The east west orientation means that the sun sets through the porthole on the vernal equinox, accidental or deliberate?
