The deep ditch is to the left, and part of the outer bank (with a footpath along the top) is visible. The beech trees were presumably planted during the fad for 'improving views' in the 17th/18th century. |
| Posted Comments: AngieLake (2008-02-22) | This one, and the one looking down into the ditch on the western side (with people standing near the outer bank) have a lovely light quality. Were you just lucky with the conditions, or is it a photoshop effect, Jim? They're like old 'rustic romantic' paintings. | thecaptain (2008-02-23) | yes indeed, they are lovely pictures. | JimChampion (2008-02-23) | I was just very lucky with the light. It had been very overcast and foggy all day, but towards late afternoon the sun started to break through the cloud with this very gentle light. There was also a small wood fire burning on the outer slopes and the smoke adds to the effect. I have a few more to post yet. |
