Description B/w image of The Bridestones near Congleton. Dating back to the Neolithic period 2,500-3,000 BC.

Originally the burial chamber would have been covered by a huge earthen mound some 300 feet (90+metres) in length running north to east. The remains of the forecourt can still be seen at the eastern side of the monument.

Legend tells us that the name 'Bridestones' came about because a Viking chieftain and his bride-to-be were buried here, but the tomb is much, much older in date.
