|Description ||Bronze Age Barrow, ‘The Armada Beacon’, Alderley Edge, Cheshire GR: SJ859776
Scheduled as an Ancient Monument earlier this year, this mound at Alderley Edge in Cheshire is not only the site of an Armada Beacon (erected in 1578), but is also a Bronze Age barrow.
Several prominent points on the Edge are marked by mounds and circular banks, and some of these could also be Bronze Age burial mounds. There are also other earthwork circles which could either be tumuli or later enclosures for trees planted by the landowners.
