Description Please look at the two images of this standing stone taken by me in February 2006. Am I seeing things or is there a small carving of a figure presented? Any comments please - not sure if this is fantasy projection on my part!

Hello there dees; I do indeed see a figure carved in the central patr of this image. Ahem... Rock Art experts out there?

Dees, it certainly looks like a figure and its an odd arrangement for natural fissures, pebble holes etc but it’s difficult to be definite from photos. There is some prehistoric rock art in the area which conforms to the traditional cup & ring style. If this is carved & contemporary with the other rock art then it’s most unusual. Theres not many bits of figurative prehistoric rock art about. I might have a trip down there.

Hmm - it does look like a figure, but a trick of light and shade could give a fleeting impression. Be useful if someone had a look in different light.

yup, very true Peter. I'll probably go for a skeg. Even if it turns out to be light / natural theres some pretty good stuff round Gardoms Edge so the journey wont be wasted

High folks - thanks for the comments, it certainly had me foxed enough to make another visit last Saturday april 22nd and I still think there's something figurative there - could be added graffiti from way back I suppose? Hope you can check it out soon with some expert rock art eyes! all the best, Dees.
