(2012-07-09) | I suspect that this figure is used to denote an adult male with either a sword or axe. Younger men seem to have just a dagger at the back. | Martin L
(2012-07-10) | Objects as seen here to the right of the belt are usually interpreted as a sword scabbard, which seems very likely.
Otherwise I do not agree in your general interpretation regarding adult/younger man. It obviously is not that simple.
