Apart from the caption '24 Stonehenge' there is nothing on the back to show the publisher or date.
This is the final one of my recent purchases from the antique shop on Exeter quay. |
| Posted Comments: Feanor (2012-12-17) | From the same lot as the following postcard, this is 1921.
The number '24' indicates the sequence of negatives. This was a common practice and gave the Public a sense of it being Hot-Off-The-Press.
William Hawley had just completed re-setting the 4 Aperture Stones, in addition to S-6 & S-7, identified here by center-striped Lintel-107.
The 2 Stones leaned crazily for years - one in and the other out - and there was a very real danger of 107 falling.
Public interest was high in this period and publications clamored to shoot pictures of a Newly Restored Stonehenge!
Tourism at the Site spiked during this time - there were almost 5,000 visitors that year! Insane numbers mitigated by automobiles and paved roads. | AngieLake (2012-12-23) | Thanks Feanor .. you are very good at this! |
