My kids and I are traveling to England in the next couple weeks, and will be traveling all over the east side of the island. Stonehenge is not an option for us this time around. Which other stone circle site would you say is not to be missed?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Depends what you mean by "the east side of the island". Do you intend to visit Scotland? Problem is that the stone circles are mainly in the west of England. The Rollright circle in Oxfordshire is central so you could probably see that. Take a look at the megalithic map and select stone circles as the filter.

Hi there
Have a good time, and I hope the weather will be kind to you. It's not a circle, but near the east coast, the Rudston Monolith (centre of an ancient ceremonial site including four cursuses, if I'm correct, and the tallest monolith in England) is very impressive, and not too far away from it are the Devils Arrows (all in Yorkshire). I believe there are some circles on the Yorkshire Moors (Twelve Apostles springs to mind) and if you could manage to stretch your journey into Derbyshire, there's the atmospheric Arbor Low, one of the oldest henges with a circle of stones which lie flat on the ground. Also in Derbyshire, the Nine Maidens on Stanton Moor... All these and many others are recorded in detail on this website.
Have fun!

Sutton Hoo in Suffolk is interesting, but not a circle!!

Thank you so much for this great information! I have my reading cut out for me! Yorkshire is on the itinerary, thanks!

I truely appreciate the insights and heads up on this mysteries and marvels of the ancient world. It will be special for the kids and I...now if I just knew where the next crop circle would show up so I could add that to the plans too:-0

Thanks again for helping us narrow our focus and giving us insights!
