Hi everyone,I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or new anything about the stones which are marked on old ordenance survey maps, they are not boundary markers as they are marked seperatley and a lot of them go in circles or stand by themselves in fields. I got a old map of Glastonbury and they were marked all round the bottom of the Tor and in other areas of Glastonbury, they also show up on maps from my local area which is Wirral, but there appears to be no evidence of them anymore. If anyone could throw any light on this strange occurence I would be very grateful, also so would all my family cause I'm getting on everyones nerves many thanks

I've tried to find out too but haven't got terribly far. According to local archaeologists a lot were boundry stones however at least one boundry stone, the one by the kissing gate at the top of the footpath at Bushy Combe, (looks like a gravestone) isn't marked on the old map. The stones at the top of Windmill (St Edmund's) Hill were desroyed, I believe, when the council estate was built and were where the shops and the car park behind are now. These were possibly not boundry stones and I think they were named though I don't have more info on that.
In Episode 1 of Alys Buckton's Glastonbury Pageant filmed in 1922 around Glastonbury there are a few scenes with a semi fake stone circle which includes a large real stone, too big for a boundry marker, I'm not sure of the location but it looks like Bushy Coombe, there is a stone marked there on the old map but absolutely no sign of it now, it might have been this one. I've looked around most of the areas where the stones are shown on the old map and they have all vanished.
I'll try to find out more!

Hi, as far as I know the showing of the film 'Glastonbury Past and Present' was a one off on 31st of Feb 2004 at Strode theatre, the film is kept at the British Film Institute's national archive and was acompanied by a live pianist. I'm not aware if it will be shown again or put into a format for sale, sorry!
