Hi there Tony
I'm off to the Middle East in late August and although we'll be on an 'organised tour', the guide is a friend of mine. (Details of tour here: http://www.exploreworldwide.com/worldwide/tourdetail.jsp?tourbroxid=12521) So providing we don't have to go to far off the beaten track, I'm hoping we'll be able to take in a couple of Jordanian dolmens. Trouble is, I have no idea where to start hunting for info about where they are and which ones we should go for. So I have some questions:
-When you visited Jordan, where did you get your info?
-Is there a book or website you could recommend?
-Which two or three would you recommend? (I'm looking for big dramatic ones near our route.
-Anything else you an tell me!
If you have the time, please email me at jane *at* janetomlinson *dot* com
best wishes and thanks
Jane

Hello Jane,
Tony is taking a long break at the moment, but he hasn't visited himself. The Jordan contributions came from the Jordanean ambassador to the Netherlands (I think it was) and all the details we have are up on the Portal. I'll send you his e-mail address. They don't tend to have single impressive monuments, but vast 'dolmen fields' of thousands of smaller sites. Impressive in themselves I suppose but in a different way.
I also met up with a chap from the Israli equivalent of English Heritage and have a information on sites in Israel that I've not had a chance to post yet, a lot of them being dolmen fields in the Golan Heights believe it or not.
Cheers,
Andy

I just wanted to say 'thank you' to the people here whose information posted to this site helped me and my husband find some dolmens in the Jordan Valley 3 weeks ago.
Thank you Andy B for putting me in touch with HG Scheltema who let me have a little more info - just enough in fact that we were able to visit the most glorious fields of dolmens. I've written a weblog about it which is over 'on the other side'...

You are welcome, Jane and I feel certain that Tony (Enkidu) would be delighted that his hard slog in adding the hundreds of Jordanian photos was of use. He regretted not being able to supply any information to accompany them. Be a gesture of mutual goodwill if what you have written above was to appear in the "seek and you will find" thread on TMA. We have received a hard press recently, only some of which was deserved. I am sure that you will agree that we can work much more effectively in harmony than in discord
