Nothing like publicising conferences after they've just happened - Oh well - some interesting stuff here

Cultures of Stone: interdisciplinary research on the materiality of stone
Aims at bringing together an array of diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives to understand as much the physical transformations of a raw material as the materialization of knowledge, values and memories.

We encourage presentations from any period and geographical context around the following themes:

The moving, trade, and exchange of stone
Sensory perception and engagement with stone
The reinterpretation of stone through experimental approaches
The ritualistic and symbolic meaning of stone
The transformation of stone from its sourcing to its final deposition
Stone and monumentality

The conference represents an opportunity for graduates, current postgraduates and new researchers, in particular, to exchange views on how societies engaged with stone through time by communicating their work to peers and established researchers of diverse backgrounds.
