Hi
I'm finally taking my wife and young children to my ancestral places. I will be in norther Wales, the west riding (Bottomley is my surname) and the yorkshire dales.
I will also spend a day in the lake district, must see castlerigg.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get in touch with my my ancestral roots especially around the halifax bradford area where my ancesters are from?
I know there was a cairne circle near Bottomley which has been nearly lost. I would love to find it and talk to anyone who has knowledge of the ancient history of this area.
I am an enlightened liberal free-thinking American who
needs to reconnect with my past. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Don't know how useful these links will be but it is a start

I am sure there are local guides or organised walks by the local council in the areas you wish to visit. Most local government have web sites in the UK. Apart fromthat I can't help you as I live on the South coast of England, hundreds of miles from those cold climbs up north.
I hope you enjoy your visit. Oh and watch out for the beer, probably a bit stronger than you are used to.
