A new web-based archaeological project has been launched by the Barrowford author and historian, John A.Clayton, to map with LIDAR technology the east Lancashire towns of Burnley, Nelson and Colne, taking in the surrounding upland areas of Thursden, Extwistle, Worsthorne and Mereclough, with a view to uncover their ancient pasts and, to map the many Mesolithic camps, Bronze-Age barrows, Roman enclosures through to Medieval water-mills with LIDAR mapping. Please take a look at this new and very exciting website

He's looking for sponsorship for £15 per square km LIDAR tile. That strikes me as quite inexpensive, I wonder who he is proposing to do the survey? Very interesting community project indeed.

I found this but I doubt 2m resolution is much use for archaeology
2m Composite LIDAR Digital Terrain Model

Might be fun to have a play with if you have the tools.

Thanks Andy. Don't know why it wouldn't work for me. I like this LIDAR technology lark because it brings earthworks, hillforts and enclosures etc out of the ground. They use it quite a bit on Time Team.

I know the feeling Andy. Those LIDAR photos are brilliant.
