Indeed - I wonder how you replace the batteries though as these don't last long on rechargeable planes in my experience (in terms of how many times you can recharge them before they are knackered).
I am hoping to improve my flying skills at actually getting
decent footage of the ground/site. If anyone is desperate for a flyover in
Wales let me know and if its a cool site I'll help them out for free (I
enjoy doing this anyway and aerials are so hard to get hold of!)
My user Id is gaianlife, I did link in a vid on the Maen Ceti page.... http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=425 theres a load of sites round here so more to come and hopefully the footage
will improve The drone can be flown throughout the day so getting decent
shadow angles on digs should be easy too . I am hoping to get a couple of
Roman forts on Gower flown on the next windless day Cheers (and keep up the good work, I love the website!)

Unfortunately there's now a problem embedding Youtube videos on the Portal as we block their new style 'iframe' code on security grounds. You can generate the code for embedding that works here - just post the Youtube URL (link) in the box and click Generate Code:

I'll stick to my kite as I'm not skilful (or rich) enough to reliably and safely fly a multicopter - although I don't have direct experience of these I understand that wind acting on them can be a major issue, such that people that fly them usually look for little or no wind days, so it should be good for shooting at dawn.

Well yeah, wi-fi is not exactly known as a long distance communications mechanism and ipads hardly have efficient antennae.
http://www.safeinschool.org/2012/01/ipad-iphone-wi-fi-radiation-and.html Despite the scary commentary on this page the readings are really f*** all in radio comms terms and of course they fall off very quickly with distance (inverse square law etc) (that's not to say I'd want them beaming into my kids' lap all day)
Drones are good for doing low fly-overs of course which you can't do with a kite. Probably more suitable for videos than still photography.
There's an amazing 3D sequence in Werner Hertzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams where the camera flies out over a lake - not really connected to the rock art but still good.
You can see their prototype craft at 0:13 on the video - more on your level of impressive DIY-ery Hamish!

Apparently, with the new GPS and extra RAM attachment, you'll be able to send the drone on an automated mission and then return home.

What a brilliant rescue! Interesting kit he has there, what with the goggles. I wonder how many cameras he has on board - I'm guessing one controllable GoPro and one linked to his goggles. Definitely hardcore!
Just reading the comments, someone asks:
"how did he connect the GoPro to the glasses or the screen?"
reply - "all done by wireless video transfer"
and "it is simple only looks complex, all it is transmitting video wireless"
"Was that a converted Laptop monitor in the case? If so, what is it used for?"
"Just a normal flat screen for others to see what I seeing"
"So the view in your goggles is fed from the gopro cam?"
"I got two cams on it the gopro and my main FPV [First Person View] cam, yes that is the view in my goggles"
Also...
"i have no more free channel on my RX, all 8ch use up, my TX is a 12ch but the RX is only 8ch" !!!

I've got a bit carried away looking into all this. DJI450 looks good and this guy has got wireless video feed stuff for the GoPro...

My mind has been blown! Carbon fibre propellers! Wow.
Video about the Hastings-Bexhill link road and the site of the possible battle. See at 4:29 in for aerial view and diagram of Iron Age bank apparantly being wiped out by the link road.

Wow! As they say - beautiful music, beautiful landscapes. I'm very impressed.
Oh dear, I thought it was all original. But then The Shadows at 08:55 started up! Good stuff anyway.
