Did anyone see the sun this morning? Thick fog here.
Just time to catch the livestream from Newgrange if you're quick

Ahaha. So it is the fog which qualifies "solstice" for "Mysteries"? No fog, only grey skies and some snow falling over here.

05.30 here.
Awakened to (by) heavy wind and rain. No Solstice Sun or, apparently, an End to the World. (as we know it)
Nevertheless - Happy Solstice Everyone!

I'll echo Feanor's sentiments and add Maeshowe's camera, which is updated every few seconds so sunset should be visible soon.

Beautiful day here. Very bright sunrise and nice sunset (clouds were coming in though).

The 21st wasn't the solstice.
21st Sunrise Stonehenge - 08:11 Sunset 15:59
22nd 08:12 - 16:00 - stopped
23rd 08:12 - 16:00 - stopped
24th 08:12 - 16:00 - stopped
25th 08:13 - 16:02 - On the move again - It is risen. Hail a New King is born
Yes the sun dies for three days and then is reborn. Now where have I heard that story before?
This is the King that Thomas Paine author of The Age of Reason speaks about here

The thing that is so special at the moment is that we are currently crossing the Galactic Plain for the first time in 24000 years. We've been crossing for the last ten years or so.

A plain is not a line, it is how the galaxy is orientated. The angle between the equatorial and the Galactic plane (the Milky Way) has been changing. Our sun is opposite the super black hole near Sagittarius A on the Winter Solstice. This has not happened before.
The Mayans are not saying it's the End of the World they are saying it is the End of Time. Or to put it another way their clock gets reset and it starts counting again. The two orbits are in sync.
This is not about arbitrary lines drawn in space.
Here's a question. NASA says that 80% of all stars so-far studied are part of binary systems. Why is our sun an exception?
Answer: It isn't

The plane of the ecliptic misses the centre of the galaxy by about 3 degrees:

Hi Roscoe,
What significance do you think these things will have?
A quick advance note for anyone out and about on xmas night, Jupiter and the Moon are 1 degree apart and will be visible to the naked eye, even allowing for quite a bit of light pollution. http://www.nasa.gov./multimedia/videogallery/index.html?media_id=156889371

| A lot of misinterpretation going on. Here's a website that's got about everything you'd ever want to know about this subject:
http://www.famsi.org/research/vanstone/2012/
The 1st .pdf has some good explanations of the winter solstice sun crossing the galactic equator:
http://www.famsi.org/research/vanstone/2012/2012Part1.pdf
You've got to remember that the sun moves against the background stars at a rate of 1 sun's diameter every 36 years due to precession. And its centre passed the galactic equator in 1999 or thereabouts - it'll be totally past it by 2020. (I think that's what you were originally referring to).

P.S. I'm not sure how much the Maya knew about precession. The 3-11-Pik stuff is slightly intriguing, but not definitive.
I guess you'd need to read something like this (amongst others) to really research it:
The Paris Codex: Decoding an astronomical ephemeris
