Viking Art and Rune Stones feature, amongst many other things in this week's programme by Waldemar Januszczak. Does anyone know the name of the Rune Stone site featured about 15 minutes in as I didn't recognise it?
Lots of interest in this series, catch up on Iplayer if you've missed it.

Apparently BBC4 has stopped commissioning History programmes so make the most of it as this must be one of the last of the great specialist series they've done, unless it's squeezed in as an Arts programme? So no more Janina Ramirez either (sob!)

There's a big chunk about Anglo Saxon art, including crosses, and here's a very insightful comment from Waldemar which explains nicely why we give them space on the Portal:
"There's something splendidly basic about these Anglo Saxon crosses. They're supposed to be Christian but somehow their Christianity feels superficial and confined to the surface. Underneath you can still sense the atmospheres of Stonehenge. A connection with the far away past and the central mysteries of creation"
Great stuff

Yes Andy I enjoyed the programme, in particular the part regarding Lonan Cross on the Isle of Man. Fascinating stuff.
