An educational thatched house at an activities centre near Cranleigh was burned down by arsonists in the early hours of Sunday.

The blaze destroyed the reconstructed Iron Age roundhouse at Sayers Croft in Ewhurst, and all the artefacts inside were reduced to ashes with more than £15,000 of damage caused.

The house had contained handmade artefacts from the period, including a loom, a hand-carved Celtic design shield, oak furniture and carved period games.

Only metal pieces off historic spears survived the fire but they remain badly damaged.

Two youths were caught on CCTV leaving the site just before 7.30am on Sunday and matching images have appeared on other cameras in the village.
