This is beyond a book review for there are more things here.

Whittle's Gathering time comes in at forty five quit, and weighs a ton, it is nearly a thousand pages, two volumes and took weeks for the inter library loan to arrive.

It is supposed to be about causewayed enclosures, and the early bit, says the introduction, is pragmatic, but I think there is a theory here, even if they don't know it. The bibliography is 60 pages, in Vol 2, so you have to have both. The bits of bibliography should have been put with each section.

In practice it is detail reporting of carbon dating for particular sites.

A lot of detail.

This is what I would call linked data and it would much more lend itself to an electronic document with the capacity to make connections.

Hello John, I've got a copy of Gathering Time (well both of them) here and have been very slowly digesting it. We've not published a full review yet so please carry on with your thoughts and I'll add mine.

Each local area has a 'book' of its own with a vast amount of data. A lot of it is very technical but not non-understandable if you persist with it. Does anyone else have a copy? It is very much worth the money given the 'game changing' nature of the results being presented.

I'm pleased to say that the archives of British Archaeology magazine have a new home here with many free articles which will remain available to read.

Unfortunately the one I was looking for to link to - from summer 2011 - which summarises the Gathering Time project isn't among them.
