^^^^ and now Sunday 29th July as well ^^^

Hello Jacqui

There is a big and well recommended camp site in walking distance called Barn Farm Camping http://www.barnfarmcamping.com - I would advise booking as it does get busy in the summer.

They also do 'camping barns' which provide accommodation for 2 to 15 people together. That might be fun to get together with some other people on here but I thought they were rather expensive for what they are.

I think there are also people camping in erm, other places.

The closest B&Bs etc are listed at http://www.birchovervillage.com

We are staying at a Premier Inn as I got an early deal and that is the cheapest way for a family of four who don't like camping!

I'm very pleased to say that Dr. Daniel Brown from Nottingham Trent University will be joining us at Stanton Moor in July to give a talk.

Dr Brown did the recent work on astronomical alignments at the Gardom’s Edge standing stone http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=7506.

Official page for the event, still with some details to tie down but here you go

The Megalithic Portal Live in the Derbyshire Peak District Sat/Sun 28/29th July
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=2146414093

Please have a look back up the thread above for things we need for the day and jobs we need volunteers to help with.

There also is still time if you would like to lead a guided walk nearby on either day, or give a talk.

Peter - I hope you can make it - if so then what a good idea for a discussion session. We could do something on Saturday morning for people who can't go on the John B walk - or perhaps break out to one of the village pubs as we're going to be short of space in the hall on the afternoon. Let's set a time and add it to the programme.

Some things we need

Loan of a portable projection screen or possibly fix up at the rear of the hall.

I would like to have a second projector on standby in case the bulb was to go. The 'blackout' should be better this time, I have checked.

Self standing 'gazebo' style tent to go outside the front of the hall

Things to volunteer for

Someone to check out the hall in person - I have the contact details.

Helping organise car sharing and parking - remember last time, although the good news is there are no football teams or ancient monuments in the car park - bad news - no car park immediately nearby

One of our first activities is that a group will be meeting at or going over to Beeley moor for a walk for most of the morning. Numbers on this will be limited.

Doing a talk

Leading a walk

Leading a 'breakout' discussion session in a nearby pub - let me know so I can add these to the programme so people know what's going on

Helping with refreshments

Getting set up and decoration - fewer balloons this time and more signs. To include checking the sound system (this time) although the hall is so small I don't think this will be a problem somehow.

Scheduling on the day

Signage on the day

any or all of these at the same time

Have emailed you Andy...

To summarise though am happy to lead people over to Nine Stones / Robin Hoods Stride on the Sunday, its a nice walk I've done before. Maybe get a chance to check Dudwood circle...

Should also be able to pop over and check out the hall but it would have to be a Saturday or Sunday.

Can't wait!

PS Have shoved an ad on tma, hope thats ok...

Also...

I camped at Barn Farm about 6 years ago, lovely campsite, quite full end of June but I got a space after just turning up.

Spoilt slightly by the noise of the quarry nearby, but not sure that ones still going...

Am considering places for a walk on the Sunday and thought I'd throw some options on here for comment & votingish! I'll make a decision after a bit, as I'd like to walk my walk on my own again before taking people

Close by:

- I could head over robin hoods stride, 9 stones close and maybe Castle Ring (if I got permission)
- a (potentially slightly dull) tour of the different cairns up on Stanton Moor.

Further away (a drive to one of the other Eastern moors)

- Eyam Moor is a bit far but a great 2-4 hours circular romp
- Gardrom's Edge is fairly topical and fits the talk on the sat but a bit linear unless you come back along Birchen Edge which makes it again 2-3 hours...

Darn! Jamie, why didn't Loie and I know about this before we planned our trip?!? This sounds wonderful. We could have gone back to the UK for it! But now we'll be in Paris the weekend of this Meet. Maybe next year!

I think we have to go to Arbor Low. It is so important and close. It has a new tenant farmer . . .

Thanks Blingo, let's get that set up. A couple more people to come forward and lead walks or would be good, or to kick off pub based discussion sessions - don't be shy.

There have been very recent excavations at Arbor Low,

http://www.arborlowenvironsproject.org/this-seasons-work/

Perhaps someone connected with this could give you an insight into any latest discoveries?

A very small Rune's Request for the visitors to Arbor Low.

Could you let me know if you hear anything unusual when you're on the henge banks or within the henge, please. It's always windy up there, so I'm interested in anything that wouldn't immediately be ascribed to ordinary wind-noise.

Very Many thanks,
Rune

I have created a Lanyrd listing for our event. It is editable so feel free to add details if you are a speaker, to add a 'session' or be otherwise involved in the weekend, or just to say you'll be attending

http://lanyrd.com/2012/megplive/

(It doesn't look like we're officially going to Arbor Low unless someone wants to set a time for a trip over there)
