I found this boulder today on Carrot Hill in Angus Scotland (approx grid ref NO4540)

Looks to me like it might be cup-marked but I can't find the stone on RCAHMS website or anywhere else I have looked. What do people think?

Never fair to judge from pics Santhony but it looks good .It would be a first for Carrot Hill definitely no marked rocks recorded there previously . Have you got a grid ref ?

I didn't have a GPS machine with me and couldn't figure out how to get that iPhone to give me a grid ref but looking at the map afterwards, I'd say it must have been about NO454404. I'll go back sometime with a GPS and get proper co-ordinates. Thanks for the reply.

Hi George, please don't go rushing off - I'll get better co-ords maybe this coming weekend and post them. I could be a bit out and it would be dead hard to find this one as the whole hillside is covered in thick heather.
Seems amazing that no-one has noticed this before.

Not a lot of people go wandering at that point , the heather etc , they tend to keep to the path higher up going over to Dodd hill etc . You would be amazed at the some of the quite obvious marked rocks that have gone unnoticed , I'm not that surprised at this one .

Yes it is a cup-marked stone. Well done santhony. I think I've seen this stone somewhere else - on another similar website ?

Hi Sunny100,

Glad you like the pic.

But where else have you seen this stone? As far as I can figure out,the only picture of it so far is on my own Flickr page at the link given in my original post here. Would be great if someone else already knows about this stone.

Confused
Stuart

Definitely the real thing, and entirely consistent with cup marks I have seen in the Derbyshire Peak District and North York Moors.
