Help us inspire more people in the prehistoric landscape of the Blackdown Hills on the Devon and Somerset border.

At the Blackdown Hills AONB we are revamping our online mapping of historic sites, to include images of key sites. If anyone has images of Dumpdon or Hembury hill forts in particular, which you would be happy to share on our website please get in touch at blackdownhills@devon.gov.uk

Thank you!
Katherine

Hello, your best bet is to private message the contributors who have posted those photos and ask, MattImpey in this case.

Best of luck with your web site and please let us know if you are running any prehistory related events as we are always happy to publicise these.
Cheers

I'm going to have a dig through my archive.

And I agree, get Hamish there, it's beautiful countryside and his photographs from his kite are simply amazing!!!

Edited: Just realised that my reply isn't really applicable. Sorry about that!

Interesting web site / blog you have ForestDaughter, I like derelict WW2 sites as well - thanks for sharing some prehistory photos here

Hamish has more than enough places on his list to get to with his kite/camera. The Blackdown Hills, despite being in an area of apparently outstanding natural beauty is not on the list, and are unlikely to get there, the only chance will be if I'm passing that way.

Hembury Hill fort - From looking at the map, and photographs on the Megalithic Portal the ramparts are quite wooded as is the area surrounding the hillfort, lots of trees and kites don't really mix and a kite aerial photograph cannot effectively show earthworks hidden beneath tree cover.

Dumpdon Hillfort - might be possible to get photographs, but a lot would depend on lighting conditions and time of year that it is photographed - probably best late afternoon in early spring.

Hamish
