The Save Penwith Moors web site is always good for a dispairing laugh about the bureaucratic fiefdem that is Natural England, a quango that have so far seemed to escape the brutal cost cutting going on elsewhere in government.
But before that I'm pleased to see that SPM have found some common ground with the Cornish Ancient Sites Protection Network and are going to be releasing a joint statement about Tregeseal circle and moorland management

Grazing ponies left dog walker with injured foot
A DOG WALKER is calling for ponies grazing on moorland near Sennen to be removed, after she claims she was inches away from being trampled last week.
Angie Strong says she was sent flying as her two dogs, Del Boy and Rodney, fled a bucking pony on Chapel Carn Brea, suffering extensive foot injuries including a chipped bone and torn ligaments.
She says the startled pony then darted past her a few feet from her head.
Mrs Strong, who was unable to walk and had no mobile phone, crawled for two and a half hours back to her house in Sennen, where she called for medical assistance.
Mrs Strong is calling for the ponies to be removed, echoing the concern of other residents and dog walkers in the area.

However Natural England can be helpful at times, here is something that map and GIS buffs may enjoy playing with
Conclusive Map of Open Country and Registered Common Land
Supplied as as shape files for import into GIS systems

There are free grazing ponies on various open areas in Cardiff. The council has put up notices warning people about them. I've come across them a few times luckily with no problems.
However I was kicked by a New Forest pony when I was about five years old. I have been told that despite being told not too I walked up behind it to stroke it and understandbly the pony wasn't happy about this. I was ok and it hasn't made me worried about walking through fields with farm animals. I just tend to be careful.
