A note to all German, French, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Irish, Italian, American contributors and readers, and anywhere else in the world as well.
What with the Festival of British Archaeology, Scottish Archaeology Month and so on we may appear rather 'anglocentric' (Britocentric?) at times, however there are a lot of such events that we get to hear of in the UK.
I would be pleased to highlight similar archaeology and history events associated with ancient sites elsewhere in the world. To post the details, please find the 'site page' for the ancient site where the event is happening and post the details as a comment there. We will then put relevant events our front page as space is available.
The same goes for other news and information on ancient sites that you may get to hear of. Of course UK news is also very welcome to keep a good balance.
Many thanks
Andy B

There is a Heritage Day in Germany on September, 11th. But this year's topic is Romanticism, Realism, and Revolution - the 19th century. There is a clickable map on
http://tag-des-offenen-denkmals.de/programm/
and they have even a mobile app to find events. However, the webpage is in German only and therefore not easily accesible for visitors from other countries. So much about anglocentrism It is worse on the Continent
Austria's Heritage Day is on September, 25th and this year's topic is wood which actually looks quite promising. From Bronze Age woodwork over bridges, church doors and dendrodating to the use of wood in Roman burials, there are a lot of different topics, exhibtions, and acitivities. For a clickable map see:
http://www.tagdesdenkmals.at/
Unfortunately, this site in German only, too.
That's all for the near future

France too got a Heritage Day, similar to the one in Germany - I am German, but at the moment living in Brittany. The date ist on the 3rd weekend in September, this year ist was 17th and 18th of September.
On the other hand - it is an European thing, those heritage days....

Thanks for the link, I'll try and find some other European events for next year, and let us know if you see any.
