Just outside Westport (County Mayo) there is a collection of stone rows, standing stones and possibly the remains of a stone circle all situated close to the coast road (indeed, the possible stone circle is only yards from the high tide mark). The stone rows are said to point to Croagh Patrick (a famous religious site) but generally little is known. Would anyone be familiar with this site.
Edit: I have just purchased a new SLR so expect pics soon.

The stone row does fit in with a winter solstice alignment iirc although the horizon point of croagh patrick is not particularly noticeable once again iirc .Chriatian Corlett wrote a nice wee paper on the area in the JIA of 1998 .

http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=1992
And I think these are nearby, if not these exact ones then I recall some in the water by the road. http://www.imagesofmayo.com/imgs/gallerylarge/62a_10570_4268661.jpeg
We'd love some images and names and descriptions of whatever layouts of stones you find in that area.

there are also a couple of standing stones in a local housing estate that "appear" to be ancient. I will take pics of any standing stones in the area that appear to be megalithic.
