Hello everyone. This is my first post and thread so please be kind. I was hoping that maybe someone here can shed some light for me, as I'm unable to find anything at all.
It concerns a recent stroll around the Glasfynydd forest. I was short for time this particular day and only managed to skirt the edge of the northwest of the forest, and could not get to the place I'm refering to. The place name is 'Castle Drake' ? On my maps, including one from the 70's its showing as a ruin. It caught my eye, as things of this nature often do, and so pricked my interest. I've search the interwebby and cannot find owt regarding its history. Can anyone help ? thanks in advance. go here for map, but please ignore the grid ref showing on the map

Hi kennosen and welcome to the portal. Sorry I can't find any info for you either. Seems rather small for a castle and no sign of any earthworks, could it be a folly perhaps? Multimap

Castle Drake is not in my book of 'Follies Grottoes & Garden Buildings' by Headley & Meulenkamp. Could it be named after Sir Francis Drake ?

Hi kennosen,
I have been to castle drake, a few years ago now. It is hidden in some fairly impenetrable forestry, and is best approached from the forestry road to the East. Walk up this from where it joins the road at SN 8690 2465. Walk North from here, and when you get roughly due East of castle drake you can cross the stream and fight your way through the forestry.
It is a ruin, but sadly, not a castle. It's an old farmhouse. Worth the effort if you like old ruins.
I hope this helps

Hey all. Thanks for the reply and info. I did think that maybe it was a folly, but as said by others too, I could find no info on it.
Its still curious to me to find that its called castle drake, even if it is indeed just a farmhouse. Cerrig, can you elaborate on the farmhouse info please ? I'll look at Coflein, though I've not been able to check things lately, maybe there's something wrong with the site ? I will keep digging I think.
Thanks again for the welcome and comments.

It's a detached, stone built building, split in two . Half would seem to be the house, and the other half a barn, with a doorway high up under the eaves, with no stairs to it. Quite overgrown now.
