Just picked up this news from Google Search Stonehenge in my inbox:
http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/content/news/2011/stonehenge-model
Basically, in conjunction with the new History of Ancient Britain series hosted by Neil Oliver (starting tomorrow night on BBC2), an inflatable model of a trilithon is being displayed at various shopping centres in Britain to prompt the public into thinking about how those huge stones got to Stonehenge!
One of the venues is the Westfield Centre in Derby, where my youngest son works, on 24th February, so if I remember, I'll ask him to try to get a photo!

Wonder what they'll do with it after the tour. Maybe have a competition for the Most Inventive Use for an Inflatable Trilithon and the winner gets to keep it.

Hope they tether it down well, as no doubt some bright spark will try to make a hole in it...
The vision of a trilithon flying around in ever-decreasing circles in a shopping centre is beyond hilarious!
... not to mention the noises it might emit...

Thanks for the memories Cerrig!
Helpful AS shop assistant - "So the 'inflatable' went down on you? If I'd known it was going to do that I'd have charged you another tenner."

Ahh, you got the deluxe model then ( Shawnetta mk 3 ). A bit extravagent, for a confirmed Yorkshireman like yourself. Birthday treat was it.
Personally, I wasn't convinced by the fur, obviously fake. Good bleat though.

Don't forget to look out for the 'inflatable Stonehenge' if you're near a shopping centre this week!
See list here:
Monday 21 February: Queen’s Arcade, Cardiff
Tuesday 22 February: thecentre:mk, Middleton Hall, Milton Keynes
Wednesday 23 February: Swindon Designer Outlet
Thursday 24 February: Westfield Derby
Friday 25 February: MetroCentre, Gateshead
My son won't be in Derby on 24th after all. I guess we can access the local newspaper websites for photos and comments?!

A report on the first day at Queen's Arcade in Cardiff, here:

Only a small picture of the 'trilithon' though.
A link on the same page to standing stones at Trefael. Must check that out. 1 Dec 2010, so we've probably got that story.

Said it on Twitter and Facebook but forgot to say it here. If anyone can get a photo of that trilithon, I would very much like to use ot for a post on Clonehenge. Thank you!

Hi Aluta
That's lucky I put up this then... as I'm one of the few who don't have a Facebook account or use Twitter.
I'm sure there'll soon be a better news coverage of this in the English Press, and will keep an eye open for you.
(Shame my son's on holiday in Cornwall, or I'd have got him to take one in the shopping centre in Derby, and you'd have been welcome to that one.)

Good for you Angie, stay 'old school' with us.
I only use them for getting the word out, (which is working well) and don't put any of my real details (apart from putting married to avoid unwanted throngs of attention)

Check out the Modern Antiquarian website as there's a new pic of the inflatable just put up tonight by one of the lady contributors who lives near Wednesday's venue.
She also wrote something in the comment section - but I forget where! May have been in the History of Ancient Britain thread.

Hi Andy,
He-he! 'Old school for old people, eh?!
.. and lucky you put 'married' to avoid the rush of young fillies, but maybe you should have put 'Not a Government Minister'?!!

Saw it in Cardiff. The children liked it. They had a few artifacts on display as well which they allowed people to handle.
Could do with more of this sort of thing.
