I'm sure it's just my imagination, but I see a ditch and outer bank, but no causeway. It appears to be about 60m in diameter. I haven't found anything about it here or on other sites. Plowed-out barrow?

It's marked as a tumulus on the OS map.
If you go to this site page and scroll east on the OS Openspace map, you'll see it marked.
Probably not very easy to get access, though!

It is a bronze age disc barrow, and is a scheduled ancient monument, see: http://www.magic.gov.uk/rsm/28938.pdf

I should have known to check the OS maps. *blush* It's fascinating that the monument record specifically includes the WWII pillbox on the barrow's bank.

David, no doubt it would be a little tougher to visit than others. I'd love to see the barrow, pillbox, and that amazing-looking collection of aircraft due NW on the Google satellite image.

Thanks!

It's good to remember that whilst squandering huge amounts of tax payers money the MOD is still one of the best guardians of our heritage.
It is always worth looking at MOD sites because their development is very slow and they have a creditable and very pro-active approach to archaeology.
It is good to pan out on that google view and see the larger enclosures and prehistoric landscape visible in the short grasses nearby.
I just wish Google would update their photos every now and again, I have been staring at a big white cloud where my house should be for the past seven years!

Looks like a couple of Phantoms, a Harrier, a Hunter, a 1-11 and a Provost.

P.S. It seems that they move them around occasionally - Bing and Google.

Ha ha ha! Thanks David! Gotta share those links with my brother, recently retired from the US Air Force. He still has a child-like love for aircraft.
