Like Drew, I think the 'mobiles' option is great for reducing clutter (and therefore ink!) when printing a page off when heading out searching - this gives the list of nearby sites without emptying the cartridge!
I am also unable to comment on what it actually looks like on a mobile though, as my mobile simply makes phone calls, not all the rest.

I have added grid ref, post code and lat/long search boxes to the top of the main Search page:
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/search.php
This should make it clearer that we offer these search options.
So that it isn't too cluttered they get hidden when you search for a country or put in asearch phrase

We have now added just under 2000 new site listings for Denmark. Megalithic sites of all sorts including a lot of chambered tombs.
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/search.php?country=8&type=stories
Many thanks to Holger Rix who is doing the bulk of the work on this. It is still a "work in progress", there is tidying up and combining of duplicated listings to do. You are welcome to help out with this by leaving comments on the pages if you see any duplicated listings.
Denmark also has Street View too for quite a few roads (although not as many as the UK) so lots of potential armchair stone hunting there too.
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=2146413820
And of course all the fun of finding and photographing and describing these 2000 'new' sites if you live in or are visiting Denmark.
Enjoy!

Another thing I've recently done is to work out why AOL and various other ISPs were rejecting our newsletter e-mails. It's now fixed so quite a few people will now be getting newsletters who weren't before. And password reminders which is useful too!
A quick plug for our newsletter, we pick the most interesting and relevant news about prehistoric sites around the world and intersperse them with the best new site submissions, photos and original feature articles.
Unlike some other news services we don't just send any old rubbish that comes off the news wires by word pattern matching.
We also work hard to 'geolocate' the news so you can see whereabouts the site is that's being talked about, with maps, photos and more information on the site where we have it.
Newsletters are sent approximately weekly and are text only as people have told us they prefer.

I have added a notification in the side bar to tell you if you have any unread private messages, as well as the total number of messages.

I spent a while tidying up the presentation of the Links and Downloads sections, eg to show you the link description before you click on it.
Perhaps you haven't tried these, I particularly like the Downloads section where we collect links to ebooks, papers and audio bits in particular
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/download.php
Links is also worth a look but a lot of dead links need weeding thanks mainly to
a) local authorities who spend our money pointlessly rearranging their web sites every couple of years and
b) people who create interesting web sites and then get bored and let their domain names lapse.
Needless to say, neither of these groups are my favourite people!

I have modified the data download feature so that it now downloads in CSV format suitable for Garmin and Navman.
You can use online conversion tools to convert to OV2 for TomTom or whatever other file format you would like.
I have successfully used POI Editor to do this for TomTom data although you need to add a little bitmap .BMP by hand if you don't want a red square as an icon.
The main download links are here (CSV)
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/topics.php?countries=1&kmldown=1
or use Search / Browse to find the Country / County / Site Type etc that you want and use the link in the right hand menu
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/search.php?query=&country=1
Downloads are limited to a maximum of 50 sites, but you can unlock unlimited downloads by signing up as a Contributory Member.

If you use our visit log system you can now export your site log as a CSV file to open / view / sort / print in Excel, OpenOffice Calc etc. The link is at the top of the visits table.
At risk of over complicating things I have included quite a lot of columns that I think will be useful to have. If anyone needs help with understanding these then by all means ask for help in this forum.

I've added a geolocation feature to allow your mobile device to tell us your location (with your permission of course)
Just go to
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/gl.html
or indeed
http://m.megalithic.co.uk/gl.html
and it will ask for your location and redirect you to the closest site in our database to where you are.
Bookmark this page and it will always look up from wherever you now are
I have linked this page from the login page for the mobile version so it's easily accessible

I have switched to the idea (from David I think) to increase the size of the first image on the site pages. This looks good to me but may upset mobile users as they have to load the full size version of the image instead of the thumbnail. Let me know what you think. Is the size about right?

Yes, I think that's an improvement. Perhaps let them be a bit larger too!

Looking good and works nicely as an intro to each site page especially when there's a lot of type. The wide blue boarder around the photo could look better in black though in my opinion.

Andy, why are some images coming up large on the site pages, squashing the text to one side. Is this something new to the Meg Portal, or another problem that's cropped up. Cheers.

Greetings, don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I found a little quirk in the drop down menus. If you click on Browse by Country/Type and select Yorkshire (East), then on that page when you click on Site Types, the first one listed is Ancient Trackways.
But then, if you change the location to Yorkshire South, West or North, you'll get a different Type menu, starting with Ancient Cross (which is what I was actually looking for).
If you then set the Type to Ancient Cross, Yorkshire (East) disappears from the location menu.
I suspect Yorkshire (East) may be using an older Type menu that hasn't been updated. Or are these menus self-generating based on what's available in the database?
Otherwise, brilliant website. Keep up the good work!

Hello, yes the option is not appearing as we don't have any ancient crosses listed in East Yorkshire. I'm surprised about this. If you do know of any (pre 1066 or so) then please let us know about them. Thanks for the feedback.

Ah hah, so the menu is based on the items available for that area in the database. Thanks.
Actually, partly what was confusing me was that the map of nearby sites has ancient crosses listed, but as I look closer, they are actually in different counties (or areas).
