Hi all, new here today. What a great resource. I'm fortunate enough to live on the very fringe of the Wyre Forest in Worcestershire - apparently, this forest and it's slightly detached neighbours make up the 3rd largest forest in the UK. About 2 years ago, the Forestry Commission undertook an aerial survey using a special type of laser - the acronym is 'LIDAR'. Apparently, this survey uncovered all sorts of hitherto unknown 'antiquities' - I say 'apparently' as that was the news in the local press at the time but it's all gone rather quiet since. There are just two images posted on the FC website, both of which I have been able to identify - one is an earthwork just above the Habberley Valley, marked on OS maps, the other a circular depression in a heavily-wooded area that I plan to visit soon.
I was wondering if anyone here had any more information? The nearest 'known' local antiquity is a Roman fort (remains of) at Wall Town, near Cleobury Mortimer - it's just possible there may be other gems which the LIDAR found...
Thanks in advance,
Simon.

Hello Doc and welcome, what's the link to those images, I can't find them.
There's an old article here
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=2146413166
I also found this
http://www.stourbridgenews.co.uk/news/worcestershire/2305590.wyre_forest_giving_up_its_secrets/
and
http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/infd-7cdj9u
The cynical side of me thinks they can't have found anything much yet otherwise we'd have heard more about it by now.

Thanks, I've got the earthwork at SO795777. Any idea what it is? If it's prehistoric I'll add it to our database. Keep us posted what you find out.

Hi Andy
Nearly two years on...several work 'restructures'and the like have kept me away from my interests!
Anyway, here's a bit more information:
https://www.malvernhills.gov.uk/cms/environment-and-planning/archaeology/information-and-advice/rural-historic-environment/grow-with-wyre.aspx
There's a tantalising suggestion of possible prehistoric sites, but I don't know how to go about accessing the extra level of detail.
Cheers,
Simon.
