Just posted 3 photos of this stone, which none of the locals knew about. Can't find any reference to it, and neither could local archaeologist. Pattern looks "similar" to swastika stone at Ilkley. Any ideas on origin/ meaning etc welcome.

Sorry but imho it's recent . That would havwe been noted in the past but more importantly it looks like metal tools were used to carve it .The swastika is not necessarily prehistoric either .

I dont think it can be too ancient either. My opinion is based upon the carvings being fairly clear and distinct, yet the rock it is on is scoured by the tides and waves every day, and sand can be seen within the grooves. I believe this action would soon wear the rock to a smooth flat surface, rather like the rest of the rock itself. The sea wears things away fairly quickly.

It must have been nice to have found it though.

Hi Chris

The moment I saw that carving I felt it was fairly modern, for the same reasons as TheCaptain.
It must have been thrilling to find it and your photos were lovely. I wonder if the person who carved it is still around, and if they will see this thread and own up?
It was probably done for a special reason, even a memorial to someone.
