I'm here in Turkey hunting down some of the wonderful Hittite carvings that are to be found in this awesome countryside. I've been in email correspondence with Tayfun Bilgin of http://www.hittitemonuments.com while I'm here, updating his GPS coordinates and getting feedback on where to find some of them. It's fun riding around on my rented motorcycle asking the locals where to go - quite often they hop on the back to direct me to some rocky outcrop. However, today I spent an afternoon looking in completely the wrong place because I didn't look at my map properly - no wonder the locals looked puzzled.
I'll be adding quite a few sites when I get home (including some nice höyüks as well).

Dear David
keep up the good work.
I look forward to seeing your new data.
Please mail me if you need help entering the data. some of my GPS positions where crude estimates from a very inacurate map.
take care
Alex

I've just finished reading Trevor Bryce's excellent The Kingdom of the Hittites (revised 2005 edition). I especially liked the outsider angle on the 18th and 19th Egyptian dynasties.
I'm now starting Life and Society in the Hittite World by the same author.
