Microsoft has bought the Portal's favourite online mapping service Multimap. Perhaps they will decide to remove the very irritating full page 'pop-under' ads that Multimap has been running for the past year, we can but hope they don't now need the money so badly to compromise their user experience in such a desparate way.
"This acquisition will play a significant role in the future growth of our search business and presents a huge opportunity to expand our platform business beyond the UK and globally," said Sharon Baylay, online services manager for Microsoft.

Maybe it'll start to work again for many of us people, for whom it stopped being of any use about 9 months ago.

It no longer opens at the place for a site with a detailed map. It opens with the complete map of Europe. Its not even centred on the position of the site.
Not explained very well.

You're right (of course), this may be an Internet Exporer problem as I'm sure worked on Firefox last time I checked. Will have a look later... I'm sure it's fixable.
