A fascinating series of shows hosted by Kevin Costner, is called 500 Nations. It's not new but I'd never heard of it before. It appears to have been researched in depth, with the help of museums, archaeologists, and many, many indigenous people of the Americas. It includes eye-witness accounts when possible, museum collections of crafts and artefacts, computer recreations of buildings, from the Anasazi to Aztec to Mayans and Mound People and more. It is the most exhaustive account of pre-conquest history of the Americas that I have ever seen.

You can see the first part here and links for the rest are on the page, but it is also a set of DVDs. For those interested, something to ask Santa for!

I watched 500 Nations Part 1, and think it's very very good. I'm going to have to find time to watch the other episodes, (downloading them is the bummer). The trouble is Kevin Costner makes my skin crawl, but I can put up with that.

Also, I'll have to find time to give SMDs Carnac blog, in the "Stones" section a good coat of looking at too.

It seems that this quote is from Divers Journal:
"Controversy follows Marx like a plague. One of his most frustrating experiences took place in Brazil in 198l with his discovery of a 2nd century BC Roman shipwreck near Rio! The Spanish and Portuguese launched a media blitz, accusing Marx of salting the site with amphorae and other artefacts from shipwrecks in Italy.
Brazil succumbed to pressure and cancelled Marx's excavation permit, then covered the site with 5m of harbour sediment. Marx lost his temper in a meeting with the head of the navy, who also happened to be Brazil's Vice-President, and was asked to leave the country."
If the 2nd para. is factual, it may be asked why was the site buried instead of using dating to prove the error. (Similar cost for each choice?) Surely the head of the navy had a scientific training?
