I tried to reply to Squonk re his valedictory but my message got bounced as unrouteable. Must have been a damn quick getaway! Any road - thanks Chris for all the fun.
Andy tells me that my last message to the List was THE last message of all - some kind of kiss of death obviously. Let's hope that it doesn't happen here.
The message was "I am trying to identify a track entitled "Avebury" by a group called Tower shutdown or some such name. Have any of you heard of this and so can give me the correct title or performer, please?". The answer - Avebury by Tower Struck Down, if anyone is interested.

Sorry about that, it was not intentional I can assure you. I've explained this to David and Andy by email, but I'll put it here for the benefit of anyone else. It just happened that the domain name I sent that message from was tied into the same hosting account as lots of other domains I owned - including the henge.org.uk one used by the mailing list. I had reached the conclusion that it really was curtains for the list, so I went ahead and cancelled the hosting contract last night.
The hosting provider told me that my account would remain open until the end of the month - but it seems like they scrubbed everything within a few hours of me submitting the request. A bit of a sod, especially when combined with everything else that has happened this week.
Anyway, I am working away to see if I can recover any more usable information from the backups I had. It's beyond me to rebuild the server from scratch (well, not totally beyond me but you would be waiting a LONG time). But I might just be able to do something with a virtual machine and the backup so that I can at least get a proper members list. I certainly can't promise anything, but I'm trying!
If we get to that point then somebody might be interested in taking on the list, but I have to say right now that I feel that I am not the person to do so!
Anyway, I will be around - I'll be on here at the very least, so you can all point fingers, shout that an IT Manager by profession should have had a better contingency plan for his home email server, and possibly chuck small megaliths at me (is 'small megalith' a contradiction in terms?).
I'm rather sad that this is the way things have ended up, but I'm trying to make the best I can of the situation.
Cheers for now,
Chris

Another one who sent commiserations and a "Thanks for the Memory" to find it bounced. Good luck Squonk! (PW)
