I'm new here so please be gentle with me if I've posted in the wrong place.
I am trying to find some info' on the hill fort to the East of Burrington Combe - see here in FlashEarth.com. I can find info' on Dolebury Warren, less than 2 miles to the West of here, but nothing on this.
Can you point me to any info' please? Thanks

Its Burrington Camp, a smallish hillfort/enclosure which, unusually, features a bank with both internal and external ditches. Apart from a small excavation in the 1960s which found very little, it doesn't seem to have attracted too much interest. Some say Iron Age, some say Bronze Age. Very close to Aveline's Hole, if you're thinking of visiting.

For England, a good place to start is Pastscape (http://www.pastscape.org.uk), which provides access to summary information from English Heritage's national database. Not straightforward for searches, but improvements are planned. Alternatively, you could always contact EH direct (see http://www.English-Heritage.org.uk and follow links to the NMR). Data on most scheduled monuments can be found on the Magic website (http://www.magic.gov.uk), which displays various forms of statutory information. Some local sites & monuments records (SMRs, or as many now prefer, HERs) have a web presence - go to http://www.algao.org.uk for details. Last but not least is the ADS (http://www.ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/) which allows you to search several databases of archaeological data, including records of excavations. Good luck.

Thanks mjb - that's really helpfull, I'm off now to do some surfing!
Me thinks I'm going to get into this asect of our wonderful outdoors as I've already earmarked some local sites from your the Google Earth download.
